Background Checks & Training
Once you have decided to become a foster parent, there are a few steps you need to take. First, you will need to reach out to your Kentucky foster agency and attend an orientation meeting where you will be presented with an overview of responsibilities, tasks to complete, and state rules and regulations for fostering children. You will also be required to fill out a new foster application with Kulima Care Family Services and once approved you will submit documentation and attend training to obtain your foster home certification.
The training and background checks are so we can get an idea of your daily routines, and home habits, as well as provide you with the necessary tools needed to be a successful foster parent. Questions are always welcome! We are here to help with any questions that may arise when completing the necessary training through our foster and adoption agency. Our staff provides case management, client assessments, clinical support, parent training, 24-hour crisis support, and other family services to help you be the best foster parent you can be.
The Importance of a Safe Home
After you have completed the necessary paperwork and training, the home visits begin. At Kulima Care Family Services, we are committed to providing foster children with a safe, stable environment while they are in our custody. To receive your foster home certification and licensing, we will conduct a series of home visits and safety inspections to ensure the safety of our foster children. These visits are to ensure the safety of you, your family, and your foster children. Most importantly, remember that many if not all issues noted on the checklist can be addressed and corrected.
Benefits of Becoming a Foster Parent
After the completion of your home study, and if all requirements are met, you will receive your foster home certificate ensuring that you have received the proper training and your home is a safe, secure, stable environment for foster children. After your certification, a child from a Kentucky foster agency will be able to place a child in your care.
Fostering is a very rewarding experience. Many foster parents feel the benefits of:
Making a difference in the life of a foster child
Teaching a child how to love and connect with others
Providing a safe, caring home for your foster child
Making room for other children in the foster care system
If you are considering adoption, this may be a good opportunity for you
And more!
